decks, trucks, and wheels…..OH MY!

We have a totally rad-tastic skate park here in little ol’ Richland Washington. I’m constantly amazed at how something that was a ‘fringe’ culture, when I was a teen, is now totally accepted by the community. I think that is so cool.

This skate park is amazing.

The skate kids are amazing.(and the few dinosaurs…ahem…people in their late 20s/30s)

Being a shameless people watcher extraordinaire, I could sit and watch them skate for hours. There is some huge talent out there. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by and just watch. They are a very welcoming group. You might be put off at first by their appearance but really they are a great bunch of people.

And, if you feel like getting started yourself, or you want to add to your extensive skater wardrobe, there is a killer skateboard shop just a stone’s throw away on Williams called Mosaic Boardshop. Josh is the owner. Tell him Michelle sent you and he’ll take care of ya. (well……he’ll take care of you either way and might inquire who the heck is this ‘Michelle’ you speak of) In any case, I promise he won’t laugh you out the door with chants of “Poser!”.

Pearl Django

The day after Valentines day, a group of us went to see an amazing band, Pearl Django. They’re a Gypsy Jazz band from the Seattle area. It was awesome! The venue was in this small church called Richland Alliance Church. I’ve never even noticed this church but fell in love with it when I walked in. It was obviously built some time in the 50’s and hasn’t been updated much. The Tri-Cities Jazz Society put on this wonderful event. I’m so excited to go and see more of their concerts.

Pearl Django made an onstage commitment to come back in October. Woo Hoo!! And in September, Djangofest on Whidbey Island is going to be amazing. As long as I can hold out on my Gypsy Jazz love till then, I’ll be set!
