{Welcome to the Blog}

Hi!

Welcome to the Michelle Ellis Photography Blog!

I'm a photographer based out of Eastern Washington. This blog follows both my personal and professional life, and features images from my professional work, the places I travel, and the family and friends that are a huge part of my life. So, really it's like my own personal photo album combined with an information source for my current and potential clients. This site is a little more informal, I want to give everyone a sense of who I am, and what I am all about.

Check here to see my very current, fresh out of the camera work. I'll be posting sneak peeks from sessions, as well as specials and news.

As part of my effort to blog everyday, I'll be posting a variety of personal and professional photos. If you are a prospective client, please visit my website by clicking on the Portfolio link above. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me through my website or at: info@michelleellisphotography.com

Thanks for visiting.

Seattle Public Library is a Koolhaas

Sorry space needle, but the Seattle Public Library is THE Sexiest Building in Seattle.

While in Seattle (see previous post) I got the opportunity to check out the new Seattle public library. Ok, I know it’s not brand spankin’ new but it’s still pretty new and definitely new to me.

Anyone who knows me will agree, I LOVE books and great architecture.

It was designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.

Heaven…..I’m in Heaven…..seriously this library is so incredible.  I didn’t have anything but my point and shoot so be kind(:

The outside of the building made my heart skip.

The refection of the street from under the side of the building.

The floor at the front desk is was made to resemble the plates used to print books. I was told that these are all first lines from different books in the collection.seattle-3.jpg

There are so many interesting textures and elements to this building.seattle-7.jpg

Loved this image in camera, we’re waiting for an elevator to open.seattle-4.jpg

There are these really cool markers on the floor of the stacks that let you know what section you’re in.seattle-8.jpg

The use of color in this space is fantastic! We’re in the meeting room area in the heart of the building.seattle-5.jpg

At the very tip top of the building looking down to the second floor. The convergence of angles here was so freakin’ awesome!

Escalator love.

When the sun is out, it filters through the windows and the light is profound.

Much love and thanks to Elane, Craig, and Clark for this very memorable experience.

Yes, there is such a thing as too much excitement.

Fourth of July morning I was notified that my father was in a horrible car accident. We are so incredibly grateful that no one else was seriously injured(although I’ve heard that the man who pulled him from his burning truck did have some mild injuries).

He was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and, as his daughter, I was asked to fly with him.

He was diagnosed with a myriad of injuries, but the most critical was a spinal chord injury. He had emergency surgery Friday night and is currently in ICU. Although heavily medicated, he seems to be responsive to the medical staff and can move his fingers on his right hand and his toes of both feet which he couldn’t before surgery. Now, all we can do is wait and see how he recovers from this first surgery.

He didn’t have a power of attorney or a living will. This means that my sister and I were thrown into a situation of having to make serious health care decisions for him. PLEASE if you don’t have these documents already, do them now. You can get them for free at most hospitals. Believe me, you don’t want to put your already traumatized family through this.

I thoughtlessly brought my point and shoot with me and am glad I did. I was able to record this experience in a way that means so much to me….through photographs.

I just got back home this evening and am getting caught up on emails and phone messages.

I’m still working.

Thank-you to everyone who has already sent such kind words, thoughts, and prayers.

Michelle

Go Team EverStar!

Last week I got to go hang out with some amazing Realtors from EverStar Realty.

These people are  a blast!

They did all the crazy things I asked and then some.

See?! Aren’t they cool, hip, and fun?!
